Em 1973 Elvis Presley decidiu tomar as rédeas da sua carreira e regressar à sua terra Natal para gravar material. O estúdio mais em voga na altura era o Stax Studios, em Memphis, onde Ottis Redding ou Wilson Pickett tinham gravado. Este disco reúne os melhores momentos das sessões de gravação nesse estúdio, incluindo temas como “Promised Land”, “I’ve Got a Thing About You” entre muitos outros takes nunca antes editados e com os outtakes de versões anteriores agora remisturados e remasterizados.

As Stax Sessions foram o último grande trabalho do Rei em estúdio. Há a edição deluxe, que compreende 3 CDs ou a versão que reúne num só CD os higlights da colectânea.
